The Palestinian Cultural Club: From Coordination to Unity
Our Story in Brief
In 1993, the Palestinian Cultural Club was founded at Beirut Arab University as the first active student movement after a long hiatus in national and student activities outside Palestinian camps. In 1996, the Palestinian Arab Cultural Club was established at the Lebanese University – Tripoli Branch, initiated by a group of independent university students.
Although both clubs emerged to fill the gap in Palestinian university representation after the decline of student activism in and outside camps, especially post-Oslo Accords in 1990, each adopted a unique approach. The Beirut club focused on spreading its vision by supporting the creation of new clubs in universities and camps, while the Tripoli club concentrated on expanding its activities within local camps and universities.
Over time, several independent cultural clubs were established in camps such as Shatila, Baddawi, and Nahr al-Bared, alongside others supported by the Beirut Arab University club. These clubs collaborated under the name "Hataf," the Coordination Committee of Independent Palestinian Cultural Clubs. Due to growing restrictions on the Beirut club, activities shifted to camps like Burj al-Barajneh and later to Mar Elias, where efforts were unified under the name "Palestinian Cultural Club in Beirut."
Later, after years of coordination between Beirut and Tripoli, the two clubs decided to merge under a decentralized system. Today, both clubs operate with shared principles, a unified budget, and joint committees, while maintaining their operational independence, elections, and unique activities.
قصتنا بإختصار
في عام 1993، تأسس النادي الثقافي الفلسطيني في جامعة بيروت العربية كأول حركة طلابية فعالة بعد انقطاع طويل في العمل الوطني والطلابي خارج المخيمات الفلسطينية. وفي عام 1996، تأسس النادي الثقافي الفلسطيني العربي في الجامعة اللبنانية – الفرع الثالث بطرابلس، بمبادرة من مجموعة من الشباب الجامعيين المستقلين.
على الرغم من أن الناديين انطلقا لسد الفجوة في التمثيل الفلسطيني الجامعي بعد تراجع العمل الطلابي داخل المخيمات وخارجها، خصوصاً بعد اتفاقية أوسلو عام 1990، فقد اتبع كل منهما نهجاً مختلفاً. ركز نادي بيروت على نشر فكره من خلال دعم تأسيس أندية جديدة في الجامعات والمخيمات، بينما ركز نادي طرابلس على نقل نشاطاته إلى مخيمات وجامعات المنطقة.
مع مرور الوقت، نشأت عدة أندية ثقافية مستقلة، منها في مخيمات شاتيلا، البداوي، والبارد، إضافة إلى أندية تأسست بدعم من نادي الجامعة العربية. تعاونت هذه الأندية تحت اسم "هتاف"، هيئة تنسيق الأندية الثقافية الفلسطينية المستقلة. ومع زيادة الضغوط على نادي بيروت، انتقل نشاطه إلى المخيمات، بدءاً ببرج البراجنة، ثم مار إلياس، حيث توحدت الجهود مع أندية أخرى تحت اسم "النادي الثقافي الفلسطيني في بيروت."
وفي خطوة لاحقة، وبعد سنوات من التنسيق بين بيروت وطرابلس، تم توحيد الناديين ضمن نظام لا مركزي. يعمل الناديان حالياً وفق أسس وميزانية ولجان موحدة، مع احتفاظ كل منهما بإدارته التشغيلية، انتخاباته، وأنشطته الخاصة.

The club's mission is to promote social and national cohesion by empowering youth, raising awareness, encouraging volunteerism, building capacities, and addressing social needs to the best of its ability. Additionally, the club strives to provide safe spaces that foster the expression of individual and collective identity while enhancing social and political participation.

The club was established on the foundation of independence to fill the gap in effective Palestinian representation, particularly in student activities within the camps, while firmly adhering to national values and the right to all Palestinian land. The legacy of fighters, led by the martyr leader Abdel Qader Al-Husseini, serves as an example and a resistant intellectual and cultural approach that the club adopts as the basis for its national mobilization and cultural journey.

بدأ العمل الاجتماعي في النادي مع الحرب في مخيم البارد 2007 ثم تطور لتقديم خدمات ثابتة كالمطبخ الرمضاني السنوي والخدمات الصحية وسيارة الاسعاف والعيادة والصيدلية.
Social work at the club began during the 2007 conflict in Nahr al-Bared camp. Since then, the committee’s role has evolved to include consistent services such as the annual Ramadan kitchen, healthcare support, an ambulance, a clinic, and a pharmacy.

اللجنة الفنية - جفرا هي من أقدم اللجان في النادي حيث تقدم فرقة جفرا عروضها الفنية من غناء ودبكة شعبية منذ العام 1995, تنشط الفرقة في مخيم البداوي ومخيمات بيروت.
Jafra is one of the oldest committees in the club. Since 1995, the Jafra troupe has been presenting artistic performances, including singing and traditional Palestinian dabke. The group is active in Beddawi camp and the camps of Beirut.

الدائرة الطلابية هي عماد العمل في النادي, اذ تعتبر الحركة الطلابية هي اساس العمل التطوعي ومنها ينشط الطلبة داخل اللجان المتخصصة, نسعى لرفعة العمل وخدمة الطلاب.
The Student committee forms the cornerstone of our club’s activities. As the student movement is the foundation of volunteer work, it drives student engagement across our specialized committees. Through this division, we strive to strengthen our impact and better serve the student community

اللجنة الثقافية - Cultural Committee
هي أحد أهم اللجان في النادي, اذ يؤمن النادي بأن الثقافة هي جزء أصيل من العمل الوطني, ويسعى من خلال الجلسات العامة والمتخصصة والاصدارات لزيادة الوعي الوطني والعام.
This is one of the club’s most important committees, founded on the belief that culture is an integral part of national engagement. Through public and specialized sessions, as well as publications, the committee works to raise both national and general awareness.

The Media and Information Committee is one of the club’s oldest committees. Over the years, it has significantly evolved and was among the first to launch live camp-based programs. The committee has produced dozens of films and media programs.

This is the Fine Arts and Creative Production Committee, rooted in our heritage and identity. It brings together dozens of young painters, artisans, embroiderers, and creators of handmade crafts to produce culturally inspired artistic works.

هي مساحة اساسية لدى النادي وتتطور باستمرار, فمن فريق الكرة الطائرة والشطرنج وكرة الطائرة يمتلك النادي اليوم قاعة رياضية للفنون القتالية ويسفى الى تطوير عمله الرياضي في مجالات مختلفة.
This is a core space within the club that continues to grow. From volleyball and chess teams to other sports activities, the club now also operates a martial arts hall and seeks to further expand its sports programs across various disciplines.

مع توسع عمل النادي وانتقاله من العمل الجامعي الى الثانوي وقطاع المعلمين لم يتبق الا مرحلة الطفولة للعمل معها وعليه فقد قرر النادي العمل مع الاطفال من أجل بناء صحي ووطني من خلال متطوعيه .
ِِAs the club’s work expanded beyond the university level to include secondary schools and the education sector, the only remaining stage left to engage with was childhood. Accordingly, the club has decided to work with children—through its volunteers—to support their healthy development and nurture a strong sense of national identity.
